Windows 10 Update

Lots of folks have been writing me, wondering how everyone is making out running my software on Windows 10. The great news is that the vast majority of reports have been that my software is running just fine on Windows 10 with no problems whatsoever!

A very few folks have reported that after the Windows 10 upgrade, their settings and log file directories were renamed during the upgrade, so AC Log started as if it was unregistered and their log file was blank. If this happens to you, you can correct it by either renaming the specific directories back to what they were named prior to the upgrade, or reentering your password and clicking File > Open, navigating to your log file and selecting it. Before upgrading to Windows 10, I suggest you click File > Show File Locations from Amateur Contact Log's menu options and noting the pertinent paths, just in case you have to change the directory name(s) back.

Just a couple others have reported that following the upgrade their log and settings files directories weren't renamed, but the permissions were modified so that they could no longer save entries or settings. You can remedy this by changing the permissions of the appropriate directories back to allow updates (use Windows Explorer, Right Click on the directory, click Properties and then the Security tab).

There have been only one or two reports from folks that could not get the software to run after the upgrade. It's not clear what went awry in those cases, but again, this is the exception. Almost everyone has had no trouble at all upgrading to Windows 10 and then running my software. Still, be sure to back up your log file to an external medium by clicking File > Create Backup before you begin the upgrade, just in case.

AVG Security Software Locking Comments Field

A number of AVG Security Protection Software users have reported that when they type in the Comments field in AC Log, AC Log becomes unresponsive. The problem is with the AVG software, not AC Log, so there isn't anything that I can do to correct the problem here. If you want to stay with AVG, you'll need to get them to fix their product. I have attempted to contact the AVG folks multiple times, so far without resolution, but since I'm not an AVG customer, you may have more luck:

Even if you do decide to use different virus protection, I would really appreciate it if you would please go ahead and submit the problem report. Hopefully if enough folks contact them they will eventually take notice and correct the problem.
